“LEVEL UP” was a project initiated by Cluster 7 of District 3220 under the guidance of the District Cluster Directors’ Rtr. PP. Nuzrath Farook and Rtr. PP. Devdaas Vijayadas. Cluster 7 was comprised of the Rotaract Clubs of Colombo East, Panadura, University of Colombo – Faculty of Law, Kandy, Negombo, College of Chemical Sciences, Nallur & Alumni of University of Mora tuwa.
The project was conducted in two phases and measures were taken to guarantee that the project was undertaken as an annual. The 1st phase of the project concentrated on the crucial areas of Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation and Tree
Planting. The 2nd phase of the project focused on contributing towards three 3 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, namely, Clean water and sanitation, Innovation and infrastructure and Life on land.
1st Phase
Under the 1st phase of the project, cluster members labored to facilitate qualified resource persons to provide sessions for students of Thennakoon Madya Maha Vidyalaya in Kandalama. Sessions for English Language was conducted by a professional teacher from Campbell International School Miss. Samya Senerathne, while sessions on First Aid were conducted by personnel from the Kandy Branch of Red Cross Society. The contribution of the Rotaract Club of Alumni Mora was led by the dedicated efforts of Rtr. Himantha Alahakoon.
2nd Phase
Under the 2nd phase of the “Level Up project”, measures were taken to improve the living conditions of students and staff of Nakkawita Kanishta Vidyalaya in Deraniyagala. With the aim of facilitating supply of clean water for the school, members of the project organized resources to install a pipe line that span a distance of 1.5 km. Furthermore, an academic room was also refurbished and 11 plants were planted in the school premises. The involvement of Rotaract Alumni Mora for the project was led by Rtr. Chathuranga Gallage.
