Mathematics is not everyone’s favourite subject, but given the right guidance, it is a subject which will help students to unlock many doors to the future. Keeping this noble aim in mind, the Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa gathered to launch “Nenapahana 2017”, a community service project aimed at sharing our knowledge with needy youngsters who are about to step into the world.
Selecting a school suitable for the project was the first step of the task. After a careful scrutiny, we selected the GCE O/L students of Pangnananda Vidyalaya, Kahapola, Madapatha, to be the beneficiaries of the project. Executed as a series of mini-projects in August 2017, “Nena Pahana” provided much-needed guidance on mathematics in a friendly manner.
The support given for the project by the Principal, staff members and parents of the students should also be mentioned with special regard at this juncture.
The best feature about project “Nenapahana” is that it won’t stop after a series of seminars. After the students face their Ordinary Level Examination armed with the newly developed skills, another project will be launched in order to provide essential career guidance tips to the students.
