27th Rotary District Conference

The 27th Rotary District Conference of Rotary District 3220 (Sri Lanka and Maldives) was held on 17th of
March 2018 at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo. The theme of the event was “Making a Difference to a Child”
and it was attended by nearly 700 Rotarians and guests. Rotary Sri Lanka and Maldives had invited
Rotaractors and Interactors also to be a part of the opening ceremony of this glamorous occasion and
two members from Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa had the privilege of representing
the club at the event.

The Rotary International President’s Representative and Rotary Foundation Trustee Mario Cesar De
Camargo shared insights about RID 3220’s contribution to humanitarian, education, clean drinking
water, IT literacy for girls, disease prevention and economic and community projects. District Governor
Dr. Ven. Bandageriye Somawansa Thero highlighted the contribution done by Rotary during the year
2017/18 along the year theme, citing the first Human Heart Valve and Tissue Bank at Lady Ridgeway
Hospital as a classic example.

The event was a valuable opportunity for the Rotaractors to network with members of their parent
organization and be inspired by the contribution done by them to the society.
