13th of January 2018 was a special day for the Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa. On this day, the club was visited by the District Rotaract Representative of the Rotaract District 3220 for the year 2017/18, DRR Rtr. PP Anuradha Senanayake, marking the club as the first club to be visited by the DRR for the year 2018. Accompanying the DRR, the Rotaract District Treasurer Rtr. PP. Aaqeel Jiffry, Joint Director – Regional Engagement and Clusters Rtr. PP. Nethmini Medawala and Joint Director – Special Projects Rtr. IPP. Sasmini Bandara visited the club on the same occasion. With the presence of the district representatives, the Club’s General Meeting for the month of January commenced at 5.30p.m. at the Royal College Skill Center, followed by the formalities of the official visit of the DRR.
The first item on the agenda of the formalities was a Q&A session chaired by the DRR. The short questions raised by DRR Rtr. PP Anuradha to the audience, created an interesting interactive session, which gave the opportunity for the officials and club members to share their views on District activities, club activities and the Rotary and Rotaract Movement as a whole. One of the questions that was raised by the DRR during this time, was what avenue each of us preferred the most out of those which are focused by Rotaract in its activities. In response to this, it was rather fascinating to see, that the highest headcount was for the Community Service avenue, showcasing the motivation for the long list of community service projects which the Club has successfully completed over the past years with great enthusiasm. The proceedings then continued, with the DRR inquiring on the Club members engagement in the Rotaract movement and evaluating and appreciating the contribution of the Club for the efforts of the movement to serve the society at large.
The DRR marked the conclusion of the evening’s proceedings, by extending a warm invitation to all the Club members to be more engaged with the movement and to share the experiences of Rotaract with fellow Rotaractors, to motivate them to strengthen their engagement in the movement.
