Together as One – Phase 1 – Session 1

“’Cause we all live under the same Sun

We all walk under the same Moon

Then why, why can’t we live as one”

The strains of a familiar song flitted through my head as I recalled the first session of a project organized by the Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa with the aim of promoting communication between individuals of different ethnicities and religions living in Sri Lanka.  While being in line with the Rotary focus area of “Peace and conflict prevention/resolution” and the 16th SDG (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), it also resonates with the Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka & Maldives theme for the year 2017/18.

“Together as one”, a community service project inspired by the words of Rtn. Yukthi Gunasekera (Youth Service Director – 2016-17) at the 5th installation ceremony of the club, kicked off on 5th August 2017 at the Royal College Union Skills Center. The first session was conducted in the form of a panel discussion with Rotaract Club of NSBM. Since the session focused mostly on promoting understanding about the different religions, questions such as basic teachings, origin of the religions, the role that our religions played while we were growing up, religious festivals we enjoy, and common aspects between religions were discussed.
