DCM – January 2018

The seventh Rotaract District Council Meeting (DCM) of the Rotaract International District 3220, Sri Lanka and Maldives was held on 13th January 2018 at SLIIT Metro Campus, Colombo 3. The event was chaired by DRR Rtr. PP. Anuradha Senanayake, and the proceedings of the meeting were lead by Rtr. Rashan Wickramaratne, Rtr. Himantha Alahakoon and Rtr.Vinura Deelaka, the presidents of the organizing clubs, namely, Rotaract clubs of University of Moratuwa, Alumni of University of Moratuwa and SLIIT, respectively. District Rotaract Committee Chairperson (DRCC) Rtn. PP. Bobby Srinivas and members of District Committee were among the dignitaries who were present at the meeting.  The meeting also saw the participation of several guests.

The meeting was indeed an informative session on the upcoming council activities, as plans for 3 major projects were unveiled during the meeting. Plans for the “Rotaract Idea Challenge”, a Hackathon that was organized with the objective of creating a sustainable impact on society through technology was unveiled by Mr. Shafraz Raheem, the Senior Business Lead Long Tail – Business and Technology at Dialog IdeaMart. The briefing on “Iron Man 70.3” followed, and was conducted by Mrs. Andrea Jayatilleke and Mr. Rajan Thannayagam. Iron Man is a triathlon including 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running which challenges the endurance of the participants. Triathlons have been held in the international arena  for over 40 years, and this year, this triathlon was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, in the month of February. The 50th year Rotaract Golden Jubilee celebration plan was unveiled next, during which it was announced that events planned in line with the celebrations will be held in Jaffna, Kandy and Colombo.

The next highlight of the day were the announcements on new appointments and recognitions for the Quarter. The first announcement was the introduction to the DRR elect PP Amjath Yoosuf. Following the applauds and congratulations to the DRR elect, the Rotaractors for the Quarter were announced. Rtr. Sajani Wickremesinghe from Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Law, Rtr. Keerthana Ratnarajah from Rotaract Club of Wellawatte and Rtr. Lukshan Bandara from Rotaract Club of Colombo West were the Rotaractors who were thus recognized for their performance in the quarter. The announcement of the Secretaries for the Quarter followed,  presenting Rtr. Kayalvili Mathavaram from Rotaract Club of Wellawatte, Rtr. Dasuki Perera from Rotaract Club of BMS and Rtr. Miyuru Dharmage from RAC of Colombo Midtown with the recognition they deserved. The next recognition in the line up was the Presidents for the month of December and the recognitions were presented to Rtr. PP Krishan Balaji from RAC of Colombo Uptown and Rtr. Vinura Ganegoda from RAC of SLIIT.

The launch of the Rotaract Loyalty Cards and Distributions of Rotaract Membership Cards,  were also done during this meeting, adding more significance to the outcomes of the day.
