Reminiscence – Bringing together generations of Rotaractors

Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa has a wide spread membership starting from soon to be graduates to graduates who have risen up in their respective career fields and now working around the globe. So yes, they have diversified lifestyles today. Yet, all of them have the same passion to engage in Rotaract even to-date. However, arranging a meetup with all these people, specially reuniting the older and younger under a single roof is literally impossible. Despite this fact, ‘Reminiscence’, an evening bringing together the generations of Alumni members of Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa was held during the Christmas season of 2017.

The club members: Rtr. Chamara and Rtr. Randika taking the frontline as chief organizers of the event, selected NCC Grounds as the venue. The date for the event was finalised onto a chilled Friday, 22nd December, 2017 as to entertain the comfort of all the expected participants, overlooking the long-weekend of Christmas celebrations. The Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa and Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa gathered at the venue, looking forward for an evening filled with long due chit chats and reminisce the good old days. Participation of several pioneers of Rotaract Mora: Prasanna Karunarathne, the pioneering president behind project ‘Are You Ready?’ in 1997/98, Binupa Liyanage (President – 1998/99), Ranishka Wimalasena (President – 2002/03) and Jagath Wickramasekara enlightened the event. They were eager to share the experiences of their golden era in Rotaract and to listen to the stories from present.

Several fun activities were also organized to entertain the evening. The most highlighting activity of all was to share a fellow member’s most embarrassing moment in Rotaract, during which the whole gathering burst into laughter. The story-telling was followed by a pleasant dinner and a DJ music, making the audience dance their hearts out.

Making everlasting memories by posing to too many photographs, the get-together came to an end by the midnight. Yes, it was a gathering of some random souls with a unique passion for Rotaract, just for a few hours’ time. But all these souls under a single roof, made the atmosphere amused that all of them got transpired from their routine lifestyles to a cracked Rotaractor with a flashback to the past, contended about the present and excited about what the future beholds. Simply it was a delightful eve.
