Camaraderie is the Monthly General Meeting held by Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa with another Rotaract Club as a joint meeting, instead of having a traditional meeting to improve mutual trust and friendship among Rotaractors.
For the second Camaraderie session, Rotaract Club of Wellawatta was invited and the joint meeting was held on 5th September 2017, at the Royal College Union Skills Centre in Colombo 7. The meeting commenced at 3.00 pm after Rtr. Himantha Alahakoon, President of Rotaract Alumni Mora called the meeting to order.
After the formalities were done, the project chairpersons gave away brief updates on completed projects. Some of those projects were “Emergence” by Rotaract Alumni Mora and Orientation Programme by Rotaract Club of Wellawatta. As for the ongoing projects, “Cleanse-D” & “Eherunu Akuru” by Rotaract Alumni Mora and “Club Trip” & “Lost” by Rotaract Club of Wellawatta were mentioned. Then after conveying the messages sent by the Rotaract District, the joint meeting concluded after the National Anthem.
Rtr Venu then invited the members for the ice breaking session, where a member had to pick another from the other club and tell about the first impression he/she got about him/her and the reason behind.
Then the Project “Together as One – Phase 1 – Session 2 commenced. Focusing on ethnic identity, the Rotaractors shared their views on the benefits of living in a multicultural society as well as the challenges faced. Members of both clubs shared many stories, which helped everyone to get a better understanding of ethnicity from different points of view. One of the key challenges mentioned for harmony was the language barrier and it was decided to tackle that in the future phases of the project. While being in line with the Rotary focus area of “Peace and conflict prevention/resolution” and the 16th SDG (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), the project “Together as ONE” also resonated with the Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka & Maldives theme for the year 2017/18.
