Nena Pahana September Sessions

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

“Nena Pahana” is an initiative by Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa, with the prime objective of improving basic education and literacy of the young generation of the country. “Nena Pahana” mainly consists of a seminar series for O/L students based on Maths, Science and English subjects. This year we selected Ananda Samarakoon Vidyalaya to provide our support targeting their O/L examination. We initially had a discussion with the Principal regarding their current term test results and the ways to improve them as well. So, with a plan of doing effective sessions, we started our session series from a Maths session.

As the first phase of our project, a Maths session was held on the 14th of September 2019 which was conducted by RtrMatheesha Abeysekara and Rtr. Kavinda Senarathne. The Principal of Ananda Samarakoon Vidyalaya appreciated the support we provided, and he supported us in conducting sessions in an effective manner. In the first Maths session, we basically focused on basic mathematical theories and basic geometry. It was a good opportunity for them to wrap up the fundamentals of mathematics and they learned new techniques of doing calculations as well. And we also did questions from past papers to give them an understanding of how the questions structured. The session was held from 9 am to 3 pm.

As the second phase of our project, a Science session was held on the 28th of September 2019 which is conducted by RtrMatheesha Abeysekara and RtrSanira SulakshanaAs the first Science session, we focused on doing theories on hydrostatic pressure and static and current electricity. RtrMatheesha did an awesome session on Basics of Pressure and Hydrostatic pressure considering the practical usage of them. Also, RtrSanira Sulakshana did a session on current electricity by explaining the theories in a simple way to understand. Not only the theories we did some questions to get them to understand easily. The session was held as two parts.

We hope to conduct more sessions in the future we kindly request your support towards this worthy cause.
