“Nena Pahana” is an initiative by Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa, with the prime objective of improving basic education and literacy of the young generation of the country. “Nena Pahana” mainly consists of a seminar series for O/L students in Maths, Science and English subjects. This year we selected Ananda Samarakoon Vidyalaya to provide our support targeting their O/L examination. Considering their requirements we came up with a special plan to improve their knowledge in three main subjects – Maths, Science and English. Initially identified the most important parts in each subject that we would need to focus on. The Principal of Ananda Samarakoon Vidyalaya provided immense support in conducting the initial phases as well. He also provides the required facilities as well.
As the third phase of Nena Pahana, a complete revision of Maths was done by Rtr. Matheesha Abeysekara and Rtr. Sakila Jayaweera. This session was done only targeting the Grade 11 students. This was based on targeting the mandatory questions of O/L Maths Paper. Initially, the paper structure was described to the students. The morning session was commenced by Rtr. Matheesha Abeysekara with a revision based on the most important parts in the O/L maths syllabus. He taught some tricks and techniques to get the answers easily which would be very useful in the examination.
The afternoon session was done by Rtr. Sakila Jayaweera, continuing the revision part by explaining the mathematical concepts based on geometry and graphical representations. Both sessions were very useful and meaningful for the students in the examination. We hope to conduct more sessions for the Grade 10 and 11 students in the future and we kindly request your support towards this worthy cause.
