The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson –
We successfully completed the 6th phase of the Project Kindred Kidneys on the 11th of December at Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya with the collaboration of Samastha Lanka Kidney Association (SLKPA). Continuing the good work, Rotaract Club of Alumni University of Moratuwa joined selling the newspaper “Wakugaduwa” to increase awareness regarding Chronic Kidney Disease and raise funds to provide free Dialysis Treatments for underprivileged kidney patients.
As December 11th was a Poya day, Kelani Viharaya was filled with many pilgrims from different parts of Sri Lanka. This phase of Kindred Kidneys Project was more interesting than the previous phases because we were joined by celebrities, along with Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients’ Association (SLKPA). Renown artists such as, Edward Jayakodi, Charitha Priyadarshani, Dayan Witharana, Pradeepa Dharmadasa, Menike Chandrika, Rathna Wijesinghe, Palitha Liyanage, Nilanthi Liyanage and also Anura Haagoda, Menu Haagoda, Menike Adhikaram, Ashan Adhikaram, Ajantha Peries, Nilmini Jayasuriya, Ashoka Jayawardena, Kapila Sirimanne, Tironne Adhikaram arrived at Kelaniya in support of our venture. It was great courage for us in raising fund. Dr. Sanjaya Heiyanthuduwa also joined with us to spread the awareness regarding Chronic Kidney Disease. Rtr. Hasitha Prashan, Rtr. Dulaj Dilshan and Rtr. Sanjaya Gunawardana joined us in this worthy cause, representing Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa.
The plan for the day was to sell 2000 newspapers and it wasn’t a big challenge with the commitment and dedication that everyone sacrifices on behalf of the kidney patients in Sri Lanka.
And that day was a remarkable day as we all managed to raise a donation about Rs. 123,000; because of the kindness and generous attitude of contributors and the commitment of us to achieve our goal. And media also came to cover this event and it was a great help for us to spread the message. Along with Kelaniya Temple Fund raising campaign there was another fund-raising campaign was organized in Anuradhapura Sacred City.
Eventually I would like to thank everyone who helped to achieve this with an immense success and invite you to be join with us in this worthy cause in future as well.
