Joy of Christmas 2019

Aren’t we all still the child at heart who eagerly awaits Christmas? The seasonal excitement still brightens us with the mere remembrance of gifts, family, friends, happy times and lots of food. This time, we at Rotaract Alumni Mora had planned to extend this circle of joy to the lovely children at SURASA Moratuwa Special Education School and Home for Girls.
Joy of Christmas was organized as a joint community service project with Rotaract Panadura, Rotaract Mora and Alumni Mora. We had collectively selected to visit Surasa Moratuwa Special Education School and Home for Girls, and the date was fixed for 28th Dec. Gifts, events and games for the day were well planned beforehand. Entertaining group chats including the collaborating Rotaract clubs were quite active during the days right before the 28th.

The event was to follow the joint general meeting with RAC Panadura for December, and Rtr. Sakila and I had thought that we were quite late for the event. Luckily, we were on time. After the general meeting concluded, our bright starry friends from Surasa came and welcomed us. It was quite fun to see them enjoy the balloon dance, musical chairs and pass-the-hat games we had organized. They really enjoyed the chocolates and gifts they had received, and it was visible on the grateful glow on their faces. Later, we shared snacks with these lovely souls and then it was time for some music! Rtr.Danuka, Rtr.Thilina and Rtr.Hiran created the nice upbeat toe-tapping atmosphere with their guitars and the Cajón. Almost everyone started dancing and swaying, thoroughly enjoying the well-known songs.

It was heart-touching to see that the beautiful souls at Surasa had enjoyed the afternoon so well, and they even took turns to give thank-you speeches. Later, we all clicked a group photo and bade goodbye to our starry friends, wishing them lots of love and happiness for Christmas and the coming new year.

Joy of Christmas was a memorable project and our last one for year 2019. We are so glad and proud for this one becoming a success. Until next time, may the joy of Christmas shine and glow within us, as we all continue the good work.
