“සත්කාර” is the flagship icon in the Community Service Avenue of Rotaract Club of Alumni of University of Moratuwa, continuing with the aim of healing the wounded and helping the needy, whenever and wherever the need arises.
This year, with “සත්කාර” we thought of helping our frontline heroes fighting against COVID-19. We focused on supporting the medical staff by providing necessary protective gears. The project “සත්කාර” consisted with two phases, targeting two hospitals, Sri Jayawardhanapura Hospital and General Hospital Kegalle.
In the beginning of April, we initiated “සත්කාර” with the project team to handle and manage the work under the supervision of Rtr. Hasitha Prashan and Rtr. Himantha Alahakoon. We identified the requirements of the doctors and medical staff and proceeded with the project schedule as to fulfil their requirements. So, we came up with a plan to collect the donation by sharing posts mainly on social media. PP Rtr. Chathuranga Gallage was an immense support for collecting donations as he connected our Alumni members who are in different countries to join with this worthy cause. Also, the current members and the Board of Directors in our Club also were a great support in collecting donations.
The first phase of the project “සත්කාර” organized by Rotaract Alumni Mora concluded successfully at Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital on the 22nd of April 2020 with the presence of Dr. Rathnasiri Hewage, the Director of Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, Dr. Sanjeewani Rupasinghe, Dr. Geethal Perera, Dr. Naomali Amarasena and Dr. Randika Liyanage.
We were able to donate 125,000LKR worth,
• 25 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Kits
• 25 Goggles
• 25 Face Masks
to Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital as a support towards the battle against COVID-19. With the motivation and good comments received, we commenced our second phase to support towards the battle against COVID-19.
Our second phase started in the beginning of May to continue our support towards the battle against COVID-19. We planned to support the General Hospital – Kegalle as there was an urgent requirement of PPE kits for their hospital.
On the 9th of May 2020 with the presence of Dr. N.M.D. Nawakaratne, we were able to donate 75,000LKR worth, PPE Kits to the General Hospital – Kegalle. We appreciate the people who donated and made the second phase of “සත්කාර” a success.
We express our sincere gratitude towards all the donors and supporters who gave their maximum for the success of the project.
